Met Gala 2016- straight from my sketchbook! What’s A Girl to Wear?

It’s been a little over a week since the Met Gala and as always there were some amazing outfits!  This years Met Gala theme was “Manus x Machina” man and machine (fashion and technology), many of the looks we saw on the red carpet were extremely metallic and gave a gladiator-esque type feel.  Balmain in particular went warrior princess crazy with some of his looks presented on the red carpet.  My personal favorite look from his “army” this time was worn by Alessandra Ambrosio- wow!  Amazing intricate details all topped off with a metallic belt.

Another favorite of mine of the night was Poppy Delevingne in Marchesa- her total look was stunning!

There’s a debate in the design world about old school crafts and it’s relevance today.  I personally love craftwork. Some of the craftwork we saw included Bee Schaffer in Alexander McQueen others who brought a more old fashioned royal embroidery look.  It was quite the contrast to the warrior princesses vibe featuring  grid work, cutouts and metallics that ruled the red carpet.

Here are some more looks- straight from my sketchbook all in black and white:

Be sure to check out the Manus x Machina exhibit now at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, it looks amazing!
