Jerusalem Street Art- Market Edition- A Girl Gets Inspired

Full disclosure- I LOVE street art, especially graffiti!  This blog post has been a long time coming but after having the pure pleasure of witnessing the famous Jerusalem graffiti artist Solomon Souza at work 2 nights ago it seems that this is the perfect time to share some original Jerusalem street art.  This girl here is a city girl, I have never lived outside a city except for summers with family in upstate New York and even then the quiet was always hard to get used to.  Born in NYC to an extremely urban family, moved to the center of  Jerusalem as a kid, give me the hustle bustle, the chaos, the people everywhere and I feel at home. Don’t get me wrong I appreciate nature but my favorite landscape is a cityscape.

So back to this post- I want to start 2017 off with some inspiration, and graffiti, especially this graffiti, inspires me.  Solomon Souza has taken to the Machane Yehuda Shuk (Market- Middle Eastern style) in Jerusalem and he has decorated the shutters of the stores and booths with paintings of assorted historic personalities and stories.  Late at night (like I saw him the other night) he can be found spraying paint while creating breathtaking pieces that are slowly taking over the market.  The city as it is has turned the market into a nightlife and culinary hotspot with bars, restaurants and just a general unique Jerusalem vibe.  The graffiti/ paintings turn the shuk into a gallery and seeing it come into formation has been amazing.  I can’t wait to see what he does next!  Without further ado here is a taste of the shuk “gallery”, artwork by Solomon Souza mostly, photography by me.  Come to Jerusalem and see for yourself because this place is so much more than what people think it is!

This is really just a small taste- there is so much more!  You can find inspiration everywhere!

‘Til next time~ xoxo WAGTD
